Toxteth Community Radio (TCR) was established in 1988 as Liverpool’s first black music radio station and was initially set up as a pirate station in Toxteth. The station became official in 1990 and developed a large following all across Merseyside and the north west. The music was primarily sourced from Jamaica, the American bases and Manchester DJ’s exposing the community to less commercial untapped genres.
In April 2020 TCR was resurrected online and was a great way to bring people together in times of crisis to reminisce on fond memories and music. We also established a kids show to assist primary school children with education whilst they were out of school focusing on letters, numbers, the environment and finishing each show with a story time.
TCR Ltd is now a social enterprise organisation, the vision for the station is to continue to run into the future and develop a solid platform for members of the Toxteth community to be heard.
We aim to get more members of the community involved by delivering uplifting workshops that will require equipment.
