Bethshan North East is a registered charity (Charity No. 1120015). We have broadened our focus over the last decade to introduce a range of social projects in addition to our Church operations. Our vision is to transform lives and bring hope to individuals, families and communities. We exist to see families drawn together and strengthened, poverty tackled, and communities and individuals invested in, resulting in a more connected, thriving, healthier North East.
The outreach projects we operate to work towards these aims include: a 10-week relational cooking course impacting low-income families and improving family life around mealtimes, life-skills course, children’s summer clubs, marriage support groups, and growing counselling services.
In recent years we had partnered with Christians Against Poverty (CAP) to run a debt help service in Sunderland. We also set up a therapeutic alternative education provision, mother and baby supported accommodation, and services to support teenagers leaving the care system in Sunderland; these three projects now operate as a new charity independent from Bethshan North East. Service development and delivery is overseen by Joanne Dunnett, Chartered Practitioner Psychologist and HCPC registered Health Psychologist, in collaboration with Teesside University School of Psychology, ensuring our projects make a real difference.
We have recently moved into the Top Club in Sulgrave, Washington - a much-loved former working men's social club. Our long-term vision for the Top Club is to restore it as a focal point of the community, which serves the needs of residents by providing holistic support for their practical, social, mental health, and general wellbeing needs. This includes employment opportunities, training, education, counselling and more.
We love Sulgrave and are excited to form new partnerships, so we are able to continue to invest in our community.
