Our Community Cafe is getting ready to open, providing an exciting new space in Sulgrave. We need your help to buy the furniture and contents needed to complete the project and open up to the public!
We have recently purchased the Top Club, a much-loved former working men’s social club in Sulgrave, Washington that had struggled for some time and then had to close. We know how this has affected residents here and we feel it is important for us to invest in Sulgrave. From speaking to many who live in our area and other groups who know it well, we know that social connection can be lacking for so many and the impact this can have on people's wellbeing. Our Community Cafe will provide a meeting space that’s neutral, welcoming, affordable and within walking distance. We want this space to help people form mutually supportive connections and gain access to real meaningful help through various projects run by us and other groups. We have already received such fantastic support from generous individuals, donors and Charitable Trusts to pay for the renovation works. Now we want you to have the opportunity to partner with us to purchase the furniture required to get the Cafe ready to open!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We have received overwhelming support for our project through a mix of different community consultations. Residents have expressed the need for a space just like this one, saying that at present there is very little for the community in Sulgrave, with nothing open regularly or providing social outreach work and nothing to serve the interests and needs of all ages of the community. This project is a direct response to this feedback. We believe the Community Cafe will increase the feeling of togetherness in the area, as people begin to connect with those living alongside them, tackling head-on the issue of loneliness and social isolation. Following the initial launch, we will look to staff the Cafe locally and provide maximum job opportunities for those who need it most. We expect there to be an increased ‘buzz’ once the Cafe opens. We have expressions of interest from numerous local groups who want to use the space, as well as plans to start our own, such as parent toddler groups.
Steps to get it done:
At this stage we are making great progress in the renovation works to refresh the space and establish the kitchen, toilets and designated entrance from the street. This is thanks to the generous support we have already received from individual donors and Charitable Trusts. However, as the name suggests, we want to engender a spirit of ‘community’ at the Top Club Community Cafe. We want to give the residents themselves along with all potential visitors the opportunity to join us by investing in the Cafe, and to have a sense of ownership for this exciting new venture!

Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
Thank you all for supporting our campaign. Due to some generous partner pledges being made to our campaign, we have been given an extension to the end of November in order to reach our target. We have raised almost 70% of our target and need your continued support to raise the final £3,000. Please help spread the word so we can buy the vital furniture for our community café.
