The idea

Preston is a city of stories—tales of resilience, creativity, and community. With your support, we aim to capture these stories in a unique format: interactive videos where viewers can influence the outcome and choose their own journey.

The series will potnetially explore themes such as:

- Health and Wellbeing: Explore life living with a mental health diagnosis or undiagnosed need.
- Community Challenges: Explore interactive scenarios on social issues like emotional regulation, anti-social behavior, and inclusion.

Through coproduction, the themes will be ultimatley decided by the participants. Each video will combine storytelling, live-action performances, and choices that immerse the viewer, offering a unique perspective on life in Preston.

The videos will be exhibited at the Harris Museum during the Encounter Festival, inviting audiences to engage with the city's narratives in an innovative way.

What we'll deliver

  • Brainstorming workshops around the themes
  • Storyboarding the scenarios and writing a script
  • Recruit professional film makers/acting professionals, student actors/ film makers, anyone interested in acting or film
  • Rehearse scenarios
  • Begin film making process with actors acting out scenarios
  • Edit final film
  • implement the story and pathways onto a platform
  • Host a celebration and showcase event

Why it's a great idea

The video will feature a unique theme, such as health and wellbeing, or community challenges with viewers able to make choices that influence the storyline, creating an engaging and immersive experience. This experience opens the way for conversations around the theme to be had in a way that is routed in lived experience, empowering local voices to share their experiences.

Working with young people and local artists to co-create the storylines and visuals enhance social mixing and improve pathways for young people into creative industries. Opportunities for participants to gain skills in storytelling, acting, leadership, teamwork, and interactive media design.

After the festival, the videos will be hosted online for wider access, ensuring the stories continue to inspire beyond the event. Inviting schools and other institues to utlise the videos to engage young people, open conversations and educate them on the theme.
