Thornton Parish Council has been serving the community of Thornton since 1895.
It is made up of 7 local residents who are councillors and supported by the Parish Clerk.
As well as being the local authority making decisions on behalf of the community in Thornton, the Parish Council also works to support people locally with concerns and ideas.
In the last 4 years Thornton Parish Council has been working hard to enhance resident experience with the introduction of initiatives to support the community and give residents the opportunity to become more active in helping to look after the area.
Thornton Parish Council has:
Introduced monthly litter picks with residents to help keep the area tidy
Introduced an annual Remembrance Sunday service at the War Memorial plaque on Water Street allowing the community to pay their respects to the who served and fell in the armed forces
Introduced an annual Christmas light switch on where all residents, of all ages, can gather and enjoy a festive community event
Introduced a community defibrillator at The Crescent and adopted a BT kiosk to keep this accessible life-saving device in
Restored planters at The Crescent and on the place name signs, adding colour to the area
Successfully campaigned to introduce a new public bin on Green Lane, responding to residents' requests and helping to reduce littering in the area
Introduced a community cupboard where people can donate tinned foods and other non-perishable items for others to take.
