Thornton Parish Council is looking to enhance the beauty of Thornton by introducing planters and flowers to pavements and grass verges around the area for the enjoyment of residents and visitors
Thornton, Sefton is a great place to live with a fantastic community. To further increase community spirit Thornton Parish Council is looking to enhance the beauty of Thornton with the introduction of new planters and flowers around the area. In 2022 the Parish Council restored the neglected planters at the local shopping area, The Crescent, and planted them out with colourful flowers. Resident response to the planters was really positive and a group of shop owners and residents volunteered to help with the maintenance of them. The Parish Council also planted out the planters on the place name signs of Thornton ensuring that all visitors were welcomed to the area by a colourful display. After an extremely positive response from the community, the Parish Council is committed to further enhancing the beauty of Thornton with more planters. They will be supplied by local business Bootle Tool Shed. Helping to punctuate the landscape with colour to be enjoyed by the community.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The planters will give the local community the opportunity to enjoy the natural benefits of seeing colourful flowers everyday around their home. The Parish Council will work with members of the community of all ages (including young people in the local Scout group) to plant out the planters, helping to increase community spirit and pride of place. These planters will offer the long term benefit of helping the community to improve and share their gardening knowledge. The flowers in the planters will offer pollinators, such as bees, a much-needed source of food and sustenance and so, in turn, they will help to improve the local ecosystem and will support the area's biodiversity.
Steps to get it done:
This project will provide one of 8 or 9 planters for Thornton. The planters will be at the following locations: On the large grass verge on Green Lane On the large pavement on the corner of Rothwells Lane and Green Lane On the large pavement on the corner of Edgemoor Drive and Moor Lane Next to the bench by Jospice at the corner of Ince Road and Southport Road The grass verge on Lydiate Lane adjacent to the Cemetery
