The Lenox Project charity aims to build and launch a full-size replica of the Lenox, a state-of-the-art naval ship that was built in 1678 in Deptford and was the first of Charles II’s thirty ships.
We want to establish a visitor centre that will draw attention to the incredible heritage of Deptford's Royal Dockyard, which was founded by Henry VIII in 1513, and the shipbuilding history of the area. More than 400 ships were built here, and many more were refitted and repaired on the site.
We want to put on display some of the many archives relating to Deptford that are held by the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, and the Museum of London, to bring visitors to the area and to educate and inspire local residents.
