We believe it is not right that feeling clean should be a luxury or a privilege for anyone in our society, yet many are living in poverty and cannot afford to stay clean.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Many people locked in poverty or those who find themselves in times of crisis often experience restricted options. This leaves them caught between being able to heat their home, pay their rent, buy food or keep clean. Hygiene poverty can be shaming, humiliating and excluding and can result in social isolation. It can lead to a lack of confidence and can negatively affect good health and mental well-being which can impact early childhood development, learning, employability and social interaction. With the funding we are able to have more drop off points in Barnet where the general public can donate new, in date hygiene products. We can then store these in the storage unit and distribute as and wen needed to our partners. We would like to purchase hygiene products such as oral care, hair care, toiletries and household cleaning products for people who are in need of them as well as providing these products to individuals who are homeless or even living those on the streets.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We will be able to accept large pallets of donations from brand and organisations. These can be distrubuted to organisations/charities in Barnet who are working with local individuals coming to them for support. These individuals are families, asylum seekers, youth, children, mothers, fathers, victims of domestic violence/crime, homeless and people just struggling to pay for food or bills instead of paying for essential hygiene items to keep clean and maintain their dignity. At The Hygiene Bank Barnet we believe that one day everyone living in the UK will have access to essential hygiene products.
Steps to get it done:
Our Values; We challenge injustice: It’s not right that anyone should experience hygiene poverty. We take action by raising awareness to drive meaningful change. We foster wellbeing: Everyone deserves to be able to care for themselves and their families. We know access to hygiene products is key to anyone's health and wellbeing. We are compassionate: We stand alongside those in crisis. Our purpose is to ensure no one is held back from participating in society because of hygiene poverty. We are community: We believe in building stronger, resilient communities by working together to shape a more just society.
