The Flyover is one of a series of ‘Provocations for the City’ by We Make Liverpool, a new social enterprise set up to provoke debate, make design collaborative and bring about positive change in our city’s urban environment and communities.
Friends of the Flyover was created by three friends who work in Design, Retail and Architecture and who care passionately about Liverpool, it;s communities and it’s future.
Steve Threlfall has been Creative Director of design studios for almost two decades and now teaches Spatial Design at Liverpool JMU part-time whilst continuing in his own professional practice ‘different‘. Steve has developed a reputation as one of the country’s leading designers of spaces for education & learning and has also worked on public realm and commercial projects.
Kate Stewart is founder of made-here, the retail phenomenon that popped up and stayed up! She has been a facilitator and MD of design studios and theatre companies and has enabled many capital projects in the city and throughout the UK to happen by developing funding campaigns, capital business plans and project teams to deliver them. Kate also has her own jewellery brand Factory Floor Jewels.
Mark Bennett is an Associate Architect at Michael Cunningham Architects in Liverpool and has worked on new build and refurbishment projects in sectors including education, social and private housing. Mark has also worked on transport projects and his passion is regeneration and reuse of existing structures. He has for many years been a Design tutor at Liverpool University School of Architecture teaching on the undergraduate, post graduate and masters courses.
This project will be delivered by working in partnership with public and private sector and we have spent time delivering a series of consultations and public presentations to judge the support for the project and have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we have had.
