I'm a playwright and lyricist, working mostly in theatre and radio. I've also devised and written site-specific theatre events, including street theatre. Music is by Cyril Ornadel, who is best-known for his hit song 'If I Ruled The World'. Additional calypso music is by Peabo Sherlock.
Director/scenographer is Pamela Howard, OBE. Pamela and Philip worked together most recently on 'The Ballad Of The Cosmo Cafe' as part of the 2019 Insiders/Outsiders Festival in Hampstead - video trailer can be seen on Pamela's website here: http://www.pamelahoward.co.uk/the-ballad-of-the-cosmo-café.html For this project, we worked with local community members in Swiss Cottage and students from the nearby Central School of Speech & Drama.
Pamela’s work encompasses large and small scale productions, in major opera houses and unloved and forgotten spaces. These include ‘Carmen’ (National Opera of Slovenia)… ‘Charlotte: A Tri-Coloured Play With Music’ (Toronto and Taipei City)… ‘Last Train To Tomorrow’ at Chichester Cathedral and ‘The End Of The Journey’ (staged in the disused Pavilion Theatre in Selsey, West Sussex).
Pamela is the author of ‘What Is Scenography?’ now in its 3rd edition. She holds the International Chair in Drama at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, is a Visiting Professor at the Arts University, Bournemouth and is Professor Emeritus at the University of the Arts, London.
Philip's other theatre musicals include 'Star Of Strait Street' commissioned by Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture - video trail here: https://vimeo.com/286237232 ... also performed at OSO Arts Centre, London SW13, and Applecart Arts, London E13, and toured in Australia and the USA.
Also: 'Welcome To Terezin' (Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre at the Mill Studio, Guildford, and Edinburgh Festival)... 'Miss Austen And The Waterman' (2Time Theatre, Southampton Festival)... and 'An Honest Soldier' (Winchester Cathedral).
For television, I produced the documentary 'Andy Serkis: Playing Screwtape' for Sky Arts and have written and presented a number of arts features for the BBC
