The Romans are Back in Town, is a proposal offering a high-quality programme of heritage-inspired opportunities for all to enjoy. Including the chance to dig up Kirkham's Roman artefacts, and find out about them. This will result in the development of the archive, at St Michael's Church, and the creation of an exhibition, telling Kirkham's Roman Story. Heritage specialists and artists, will work with individuals, community groups, schools and organisations, to bring alive Kirkham's heritage. Transforming the high street, with a heritage inspired mural, and a celebratory lantern festival, attracting visitors to the town and creating a lasting legacy.

What we'll deliver:

  • Local heritage Inspired lantern festival - providing opportunities for schools, community groups and individuals .
  • Opportunities to get involved with a community archaeology project- inclusive programme of active engagement.
  • A town centre mural, including an activity programme targeting young people
  • An exhibition "The Romans are Back in Town" - telling Kirkham's Roman Story .
  • Development of a local archive at St Michael's Church.
  • Opportunities to get involved in creative workshops.
  • An educational programme of opportunities for school.

Why it's a great idea:

This proposal will increase access to cultural opportunities, through the provision of a free and varied activity programme for all ages and abilities to enjoy. A high-quality town centre mural will animate and improve the high street while boosting the local economy. It will also deliver an exciting programme of activity, for young people to enjoy, facilitated by a professional mural artist. This proposal will create opportunities to better connect the community to local heritage, and also each other, through the development of both the community archaeology project, and a heritage-inspired lantern festival.
