Growing up in Camden as one of eight children raised by a single mother, I understand first-hand the challenges that come with limited opportunities. Our household was full of love but short on access — and that experience shaped my drive to make a difference for others facing similar barriers.
Today, as a Community Engagement Officer working in Camden, I’ve dedicated my career to bridging those gaps. Through years of grassroots work, I’ve listened to countless stories from young people and families across our borough — stories of ambition, resilience, and untapped potential. These voices inspired me to create Spacehiev, a community-led initiative designed to open doors for the next generation.
Spacehiev provides structured, hands-on opportunities for young people aged 16–25 to train in childcare and event professionalism. Each year, we aim to train 30 participants, offering DBS clearance, certified training, mentoring, and paid work placements at weddings nationwide.
Our vision is simple: to empower youth through real experience, real income, and real change. Participants leave the programme not just with skills, but with confidence, qualifications, and genuine work experience — while families gain access to trusted childcare from trained local professionals.
Expected Impact:
- 30 young people trained and employed annually
- 150+ hours of professional development delivered each year
- Over 300 families supported through quality childcare
- A self-sustaining youth enterprise model that builds community wealth and resilience
What Sets Us Apart
- Culturally rooted and community-led: Created by and for the communities we serve
- Earn while you learn: Real paid placements, not unpaid “experience”
- Sustainable by design: Income from wedding bookings reinvested into youth training
- Immediate and lasting results: Empowering young people while strengthening local families
Spacehiev isn’t just about skills — it’s about creating pathways, pride, and purpose. What began as one woman’s story from Camden has become a platform for many, proving that with the right support, local talent can rise, thrive, and lead.
