Teme Wheels has been registered as a charity to provide community transport for those in need in the rural community along the Teme Valley. We particularly want to cover the county border areas of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire which are poorly served.
In addtion we aim to pioneer a fully electric MPV service and help alleviate loneliness as well as assisting people to access medical services. The electric vehicle will have wheelchair access. We are currently developing an idea to promote 'Countryside Rides' in which we take clients suffering loneliness for outings to places of their choice using a friendly driver. Also we offer short notice transport to our GP practice where an ambulance or hospital car is not necessary.
We have the support of a group of experienced volunteer drivers and already have some 80+ clients on our database many of whom we have been taking for vaccinations. All volunteers are caring people who will go to great lengths to support clients. Although clients have to be resident in our catchment area, there is almost no limit to the length of journeys to hospitals: for example London and Wales are possible. Our fares are based on the widely accepted 'charity' rate of 45 pence/mile which, in the case of car drivers, is reimbused to them so that no profit is made. For minibus journeys a minimal amount will be charged to cover the running costs and where a concessionary pass is held, every passengers gets a discount of £2 for each single journey - this discount also applies to car journeys.
Our charity is administered by knowledgeable trustees and administrative staff all of whom are volunteers and have long track records in this field of operation.
