The idea
Sykehouse Cricket Club is a small village team in rural north-east Doncaster with a long and proud history and is an important focal point for the local community. The club relies on the significant time given by a number of volunteers, match fees and generous donations from local businesses in order to keep the club running and provide recreational and social opportunities for the local community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all income streams have effectively been cut off, yet finance is still required for insurance, equipment and ground maintenance.
We are seeking to raise at least £100 towards these costs, at which point a further £100 has been pledged by the ECB. Alongside the general running costs of the club we also urgently need to raise funds towards the purchase of new gang mowers to replace our old and now ineffective ones to enable us to provide an ongoing well-maintained playing surface for the cricket club and other local users.
What we'll deliver
- Help the cricket club survive the COVID-19 pandemic
- Contribution to ongoing costs to replace our income shortfall
- Maintain the cricket field and surroundings for local recreational use
Why it's a great idea
Benefits from this project will be felt throughout the local community from club players and volunteers to local children who use the facilities for recreational use. The survival of the cricket club will also help foster community spirit in these difficult times, with the club and village hall complex being an important focal point for a range of other social and leisure activities throughout the year.
Steps to get it done
- Servicing of equipment
- Renewing insurance
- Purchase of top soil and grass seed
