Providing #2minutebeachclean Stations around Swansea Bay and Gower; the stations hold the equipment and information necessary for visitors & local community to litter-pick on our beautiful beaches.
I am fundraising to locate beach clean stations around Swansea Bay and Gower. So far I have already purchased a station which is located outside The Secret, on Swansea Bay – it is a station which holds litter pickers & bags, plus information encouraging people to do a little bit of cleaning up when visiting the area. It is already being well used. The stations are produced by the 2 Minute Foundation, a registered charity that is devoted to cleaning up our planet 2 minutes at a time. They believe that simple, achievable acts can add up to make a great difference. The #2minutebeachclean campaign is generating a massively growing global community with thousands of followers & over 800 beach clean, street clean & litter pick stations are now located across the UK and Ireland; so far a number of Swansea & Gower cafes have offered to become a guardian of a station and I hope we can provide a means and the awareness all around our beautiful coastline of how people can get involved.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Not a day goes by when there isn't a story in the media about the environmental crisis hitting our planet. We are all waking up to the reality that action needs to be taken but it sometimes feels like a massively daunting & impossible problem to address. BUT we can all do our little bit: Every piece of plastic that you remove from the marine environment is no longer a danger to the animals that still live there. Every item removed from the ocean will not degrade into thousands of tiny, toxic pieces of micro plastic and end up being ingested by fish or sea mammals. Every item removed from a beach will not go on to kill. Every item of plastic removed from your street, beach or park will help to improve it and improve the lives and businesses of people using it. Every item you remove from the beach will be good for you too. Beach cleaning gets you outside, helps to keep you healthy and fit and feeling good, and enables you to take care of nature and take care of what is yours.
Steps to get it done:
Our coastline is of the most beautiful in the world - I would love to have beach clean stations all around it so we can encourage people to take pride in it, to help keep it clean and safe and to also become mindful of their own behaviours and ways they can help improve our environment. So far the following businesses have agreed to become guardians of beach clean stations: The Junction, Blackpill Fortes. Bracelet Bay Langland Brasserie, Langland Smugglers, Port Eynon Private business - Horton I am in discussions with other locations too so watch this space!

Hi everyone, hope you’re all safe and well? Sorry I’ve been so quiet, it’s the busiest time of year with my job so I’ve been with consumed with that. Once things die down I’ll be arranging for the order and delivery of the stations and hopefully we can have a social distanced launch and we will do the raffle draw!!!! We’ve been featured on This Is South Wales tv recently https://www.facebook.com/577672802402639/posts/1619738888196020/?vh=e and also on the latest Swansea Come Together podcast featuring the amazing work going on to keep our Community area eco ethical! Wow!!! Yesterday I panicked as I found out I had only 20 days left to raise over £500 to meet the target (Spacehive were unable to extend the date). In less than 24 hours we have exceeded the target and are still climbing! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m overwhelmed! We will keep accepting pledges as additional funds will go towards keeping the stations replenished with equipment; who knows we might be able to buy even more stations - let’s get all of Swansea and Gower cleaning the beaches. I’ll be emailing each and every one of you to thank you personally over the next few days and asking you your raffle preference prize should your name be drawn. Thank you!!!! Much love and gratitude, Helen x x x
