BYIB is a community Interest Company
All directors are bereaved by suicide and are aware of the impact of the affects, often leading to more suicides, complex grief and long term suffering.
Regular weekly groups can help hold a person as they process the death, and shared feelings, of self blame and not having done enough, helping wth the normalisation of their feelings.
The groups help people find their words. Often people cannot communicate how they feel, when art or writing can. Words can then be found and shared. People find themselves putting words to their feelings, which they can then take back to share with families and friends.
We can help people prepare for inquests through shared experience.
Group members find anniversaries/ Christmas particularly difficult, and the group are aware of these times for each other.
We are recommended by Chorley GP practice and social prescribers have brought people to the first meeting.
ByiB are part of Lancashire Suicide prevention and group members support and have given presentations at council meetings and other open days
We will continue to be supported by CAD (Community Asset Development) NHS team and have approached 'Open Space' in Colne and South Ribble council about developing new groups in these areas. Here we already have volunteers who are willing to help.
We had funding from Burnley/Pendle Community Service Volunteers to facilitate a three month winter support group in Nelson last winter. We walked, foraged and made healthy food . This brought in a higher proportion of men and working people. Volunteers had conversations with 9 new people who were all helped by the connections made. An additional benefit was exercise, getting out the house and learning new skills. Some of the new poeple have since joined our other groups for ongoing support.
