Sunderland Pride Festival 2020

Unfortunately, we have had to postpone last year’s Pride event due to the global pandemic, instead we came together online with our first ever Virtual Pride and a Big Christmas Pride Party. The response to both these events was so positive and we were able to reach over 17,000 people. This year we have been waiting in anticipation to host the festival that so many people have worked hard to bring to life. The government has issued a road map of how we are to exit lockdown, with small events planned to start in April, with the view that larger events may take place when stage 4 is implemented. Following a meeting of our Planning group, we have taken the very difficult decision to once again postpone this year’s outdone Pride Event until June 2022. The government’s road plan gives us all hope that we will be able to see our friends and family again. However, so much is still uncertain and the safety of our staff and volunteers as well as everyone who attends is our upmost priority.. We are aware of the disproportionate effect the pandemic is having on our community, and the need to bring the LGBT+ community together is more important than ever. With that in mind we have planned a week-long virtual festival which will take place starting on 2nd August including a range of satellite events cumulating in our very first Virtual Pride Parade on Saturday ending with an afternoon of entertainment. One of our majors aims this year is “Give back” this is aimed at thanking all our supporters past and present as well as shining a light on the amazing local business Sunderland has to offer. We want to thank everyone for their continues supports and we will be celebrating again together soon.

We would like to thank everyone who has pledged to our cause, especially Sunderland City Council, and the Clinical Commissioning group as well as NHS Trust, and members and allies of the LGBT+ Community. We had to postpone our Pride Event on 11th June, but we are going live on Saturday 11th July @12.00 on Facebook, until we can have our Festival in the open.
