Sunderland Pride Group is wholly run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity. We are a Community Interest Company, who is a not-for-profit organisation, and any surplus funds we raise are used to support our LGBT+ groups that run in our LGBT+ Centre, as well help improve the event.
Our Vision
“We believe in a fair and equal society where all Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people can achieve their full potential”.
Our Mission
To work with individuals who are impacted by LGBT+ issues, including sexual and mental health problems, to raise awareness of discrimination, including hate crimes. And the impact of stigma, as well as confidence building.
We do this by hosting a number of event and activities that:
- Provide local residents who are sociality excluded or disenfranchised, by LGBT+ issues including isolation, the opportunity to participate with other residents of the community in activities.
- Support LGBT+ groups
- Promote visibility of the LGBT+ community.
We host various satellite events throughout the year and competitions such as Pride’s Got Talent, which helps to showcase the wonderful creativity across our community. This as well as our annual Parade which is a showcase of colour and diversity through the heart of Sunderland with, followed by the Event which is designed to give LGBT + people a platform to be visible and speak loudly to the rest of the city, of how proud our community is.
