Here at DWRM, we are proud to be Doing What Really Matters, disrupting and innovating to revolutionise education in prison. Our mission is to forge accessible, dynamic and co-produced pathways into Further and Higher Education (FE / HE) for students in prison, using education as the engine for prisoner rehabilitation. We are proof that anyone, given a chance, can obtain a respected qualification that will create new career opportunities and break the cycle of re-offending. Our board of directors is genuinely diverse, our workforce being over two-thirds BME and over 50% people with lived prison experience. As an equity-led organisation, everything we do is co-designed, co-evaluated, and underpinned by our Peer Mentors, who use their unique experiences of the Criminal Justice System to make a change.
We know that engaging in education at this level can significantly reduce the chance of people returning to prison, which leads to safer communties for us all. Because our work is designed and led by people with personal experience of the Criminal Justice System, we act a role models for those we are working with in prisons to demonstrate what a brioghter future looks like. We also offer reassurance to the wider community, helping to dispel the media myths of monsters in prison and to demonstrate that rehabilitation is achievable with the right level of support.
