The idea
The idea is to engage the community & local school children to work together for a spectacular lantern parade around the park in November. The majority of the funding will be used to run lantern making workshops in the weeks leading up to the event in local schools & clubs. The tried and tested workshops will be provided by Creative Communities Leeds, a non-profit social enterprise which organised Bramley lantern parade last year. The vision is to create an inclusive & interactive event where people can use their imagination, spark their creativity, discover ways to use sustainable & recycled materials as well as socialise & engage with the wider community. People of all ages are encouraged to participate in the parade by using their own lanterns or even torches, mobiles, flags etc. The bowling club will be the central hub for the event & can provide facilities, refreshments & a safe meeting point. Volunteers will be able to facilitate timings & ensure the safety of participants.
What we'll deliver
- A fun and inclusive evening of creativity, imagination and light.
- A social event where the community have a chance to interact.
- A positive and uplifting visual event to benefit everyone.
Why it's a great idea
This project will encourage the community in particular school age children to get creative and work together for a collective outcome. Friends of Stanningley Park will be facilitating a way for locals to discuss their thoughts and vision for their park and will provide opportunities for regular public events and social gatherings.
Steps to get it done
- Creative Communities Leeds will deliver lantern workshops in local schools
- Local people and children will be encouraged to design and make lanterns
- Organise the lantern parade around Stanningley Park
- Organise a social event with refreshments at the end of the parade
- Engage local people in talking about ideas for their park
If we get more funding we would like to organise a drum band to lead the lantern parade and other creative events.
