Spitalfields City Farm is a free-entry, urban oasis located a stone’s throw from the City of London that offers a unique and creative natural environment for all to enjoy. The farm has been an integral part of the community for over 40 years and continues to grow, attracting new visitors and service users year upon year.
Spitalfields City Farm operates seven days per week (open to the public six days per week). A variety of activities are regularly offered between the three main areas: the gardens, the farmyard and education. We provide an urban oasis of the rural environment, connect the local community with nature, provide meaningful career, training & volunteering opportunities, contribute to the local economy, and?provide education about, and solutions to, the impacts of climate change and environmental disconnection. The Farm is seen as important to the cultural prosperity of the area - not only on an economic level - but also on a social level - as we bring different communities together and provide similarly diverse economic and cultural benefits.
Spitalfields City Farm runs a tried and tested Education Programme with a coalition of primary and secondary schools within the Tower Hamlets borough. This programme is in the 7th year of delivery. We see over 800 children visit the farm for the first time each year, many who may not have seen common farm animals before. This experience is usually the foundation to repeat visits and many children and young adults who participate in other programmes provided by Spitalfields City Farm first came as part of a school trip.
