Spitalfields City Farm By Spitalfields City Farm

Spitalfields City Farm needs your support to source a van, suitable for animal transportation, to ensure our community can benefit from our mobile farm service.

Tower Hamlets Delivery stage

£3,982
pledged of £31,252

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Spitalfields Farm needs your help to get a van that will provide many years of hard-working service, from emergency veterinary transport to making sure that our community can benefit from the farm outreach services. Our goal is to purchase a van in the New Year, and made suitable for transporting animals before Easter 2023, a busy season for our resident donkeys supporting community events. This van will meet current emission standards and help take the farm forward with the ethos of striving to improve the environment around us. Reliable transport will enable use to attend schools, children centres, residents associations, hospices, and community events. Ensuring we can continue our wider community engagement providing inclusive, educational, and social activities for children, adults, and the elderly. Taking our much loved animal residents out into the community delivers positive and meaningful activities for individual beneficiaries and groups.

What we'll deliver:

  • A new low-emission branded van suitable to transport animals
  • Provide 6 new volunteering opportunities

Why it's a great idea:

Mobile farms will introduce participants to new experiences that can help to build confidence, physical skills and promote their development, wellbeing or recovery such as hands on animal visits; interactive curriculum linked activities; training in animal care and welfare Educational visits stimulate curiosity and participants can then begin to apply their new knowledge and understanding in the wider world. There is also a wealth of opportunity for language development and literacy skills. Recreational and therapeutic visits provide contact with animals for people who may not normally have the opportunity. Interaction with animals and nature has been proven to promote stimulation, self-expression and enhance wellbeing. Our outreach projects have a wide ranch of beneficiaries from early years to older people. In 2019 we engaged with over 20,000 individuals across 40 events. The delivery of our outreach projects also benefit and are supported by our farm volunteers.

Steps to get it done:

  • Purchase a ULEZ compliant van
  • Install tow bar to pull livestock trailer
  • Install ventilation for use as animal transport
  • Brand the van to help market the project and thank supporters
  • Support 4 Tower Hamlets school /community events by April 2023

Service users have long reported on the many physical and emotional benefits of their experience with the animal we take out: "We enjoy the farm visiting each year. Its a great hands on experience for the children." "The farm staff were great to work with and the animals were a huge part of a great community event." "The farm staff that came with the animals were amazing, the children loved every minute and the learning was immediate. The awe and wonder on the faces of the children was priceless!" "Thank you for bringing us joy!" “It has been a joy to work with the farm each year the children looks forward to it and gain so much from the experience. SEN children in particular benefit from the experience and love to be with the animals" "The Mobile Farm created a successful and authentic experience for all those in attendance. The children and parents loved it."
