The environment

The environment

With the total amount of funding raised, we were able to install 27kw of solar, which is estimated to save around 8 tonnes of carbon in the first year, and a total of 150 tonnes over the next 20 years

The local economy

The project will realise about £70,000 of financial benefit for the schools - through both payments from the Feed In Tarriff and from reductions in energy bills. This is money that can be reinvested into the school's activities, providing a greater long-term benefit for students working in the area, and supporting local businesses who supply the school.

Throughout the crowdfunding, the Directors attended two school assemblies to update pupils on the project. But as well as talking about the project and ways they could get involved, we also talked to them about climate change, what's causing it and what we can do to tackle it. We also purchased over 100 copies of Greta Thunberg's 'No one is too small to make a difference' and gave them out freely to local children - showing them the difference that one person can make, and helping raise aspirations across the community.
