The only care farm for Disabled people in Gloucestershire needs a revamp. Help us introduce 12 raised planters for disabled people and nature.
With a recent 40% increase in demand, we must transform our site for Disabled people, and the community. Help us introduce 12 accessible raised beds for disabled people and nature. Support us today and you'll help provide a fully accessible Farm and equal access to nature for Disabled people to connect with each other, our fantastic animals and the community! You'll help us improve physical and mental health and bring a wide range of social benefits. You'll help reduce loneliness and provide more educational and horticultural opportunities too. This is part of a full site transformation - through our transformed site, Scrubditch Care Farm will empower individuals to form friendships (some for the first time), build confidence and improve their wellbeing. We'll reach around 600 people annually. We'll host Open Farm Days where you can come and see the difference you've made, plus you could even help us build the planters and and enjoy the space first hand!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Most of our service users have learning disabilities and some come from miles to benefit. All have very poor access to nature and social activities which impacts their health and wellbeing. The planters and new site will be a crucial - and for many, the only - opportunity to connect with nature and each other, improving mental and physical health. The whole community around North Cerney and Cirencester can enjoy the space too. You'll provide environmental and food education, help people grow produce and develop important life skills. This will build confidence and self-esteem, creating a safe space for all to thrive. In 2025 we will welcome nearly 600 people to the Farm. Here's what we achieved last year, which will only improve with your support: • 85% felt more confident • 80% became more independent • 90% said their memory improved • 95% became more mobile and physically active Help us improve wellbeing, health, nature and foster inclusion and accessibility for all!
Steps to get it done:
Our beneficiaries present with a range of disabilities from Autism Spectrum Disorder to Asperger’s Syndrome. 64% have a learning disability. People with learning disabilities are more likely to have poor health, be socially isolated and have little money. Yet they are often the community who benefits most from nature-based activities and time outdoors. The outdoors provides a way of improving quality of life including more opportunities to be active, develop new interests, participate in public life and meet others. We need to improve our Farm’s accessibility so that everybody can access all areas, whilst inviting the community to the site and providing volunteering opportunities.
