We often get together with our fellow scout groups to have fun, share skills and socialise. The photo is from our recent Beaver Scout trip to Portlick and includes some friends from Crumlin and Merchants Quay. I have read many other scout group histories and there are lots of really good ones out there. This publication is unique in that we have 100 years of records, scouting stories from members and research over several years to provide background and historical perspective. Delving into our documents, sound recording, pictures and video records gives us a precious account of our place in our community, Donore Avenue, and the important place we occupy in the local and national social fabric. This is almost the last update before this fundraising campaign closes at the end of June. Please encourage others to financially support this project; even €5 or €10 would be great. Thank you

These are some o our flags and have represented the group throughout a century of ceremonies and activities. They are just part of the symbols and emblems the group has adopted in support of its aspirations and ideals. Please support our centenary book with even a small donation, it is very much appreciated. Thank you

35th Scouting Trail - update 31 month ago

This is the third update for this book-funding initiative. The 35th Donore Scouts are one of the few groups, if not the only, to have sea and air scout sections alongside their land scouts. The sea scouts formed in 1945 and launched from the Neptune rowing club. For that reason the background music is "Caboose to De Kluis" which was played live recently in the same club and is a tune associated with the 2024 Annual Camp. The air scouts were formed in 1982 and headquartered in Weston Aerodrome. The video shows Archie Raeside Snr and Jnr instructing a new Air-scout in flying a model airplane. Both stories are included in the book and are part of the centenary story of this long established scout group which operated in Donore Avenue since 1928. If you would like to hear the full tune you can hear it using the following link: https://youtu.be/drcCSvXLZo8 Please support this important book with a small donation and share the link with your contacts - the more people who become aware of this, the more likely our success will be. Thank you very much.

Update number 21 month ago

This is the second update for this Spacehive project for the “35th Scouting Trail” – the centenary book for the Donore Avenue Scout Group. The first picture depicts our former Unit Leader, Tony Crowley, who was a leader back in the 1970’s/80’s reaching base camp at Mount Everest in April this year – well done Tony. This is followed by some of the plethora of activities held by the group this year; far too many to include here. The soundtrack is “Glencree Ramble” a tune written from fond memories of hiking with the 35th scouts. Your generous support has got us over 10% of our funding so far and we are very grateful for this. With so much interest in social history and archiving we are proud to make our contribution reflecting a vibrant community centred in the Tenters and surrounding catchment area. We are part of the social fabric of this wonderful community and continue to seek your support to make this narrative of 100 years of scouting in Donore a reality. Please spread the word and encourage support; every euro pushes us closer to reality.
