Restoration of buildings at Lion Salt Works to allow permanent on site demonstration of the open salt making method and preserve the traditional techniques of salt making.
The Trust was established in 1993 to protect and restore the Lion Salt Works at Marston. The works had ceased production of salt in 1986 and was the last open pan salt works in Europe. This method of production of salt was the technology used to generate most of Cheshire's wealth in the 19th and early 20th century. The Trust was able to win significant heritage lottery funding and with the support of Cheshire West and Chester council the site was restored and opened to the public in 2016,
The site is now a scheduled monument.
