More about our impact
The environment
The new paths are making it possible to plan a series of weekly gardening sessions for the over 50s, and a monthly gardening session for all led by a trained community gardener. We plan to feature both specific sessions on planting for pollinators, and identifying and encouraging pollinators, whilst being sure that we communicate more generally about benefits to the environment.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The project itself proved a focus for our volunteers and gave us more volunteer hours this year. Because of the timing of the project we will see the real benefit in 2018 (and beyond). We are lining up helpers for weekly sessions for over 50s and planning monthly led workshops so we will bust our forecast of 40 days!
Arts, culture & heritage
Our fundraising activities included cooking sessions on different cultures, for example a "Taste of Asia", plus modern British cooking involving pickling. We supported the Clapham Fete bringing gardening, local produce and home made pickles, jams and chutneys to sit alongside local crafts, historical societies, and charities.
Activity, health and leisure
We are now reaching out to all our contacts to explore how our newly accessible garden can be used more regularly. GLL leisure who supported our project will be looking for opportunities. We ourselves are initiating older peoples (50+) gentle gardening sessions on a weekly basis once the weather warms up. Plus our regular Saturday sessions will be able to accommodate less mobile people increasing the number who attend. We expect to meet our target and go further.
