The project will deliver a street photography activity to young people in Medway aiming to change perceptions of the local community.
Street Photography Rochester will work alongside pupils from Delce Academy and Chatham Grammar School for Girls to change perceptions of Rochester. This will be done by interactive photo walks which will build in technique and create a foundation of photography skills. We believe that photography has the potential to improve mental health, raise aspirations, increase confidence and provide transferable skills to the wider world, as well as help people to love where they live and feel more positive about their community. After the pupils have completed the course, an exhibition of the photographs will be organised in conjunction with Little Roc Cafe and Gallery . This exhibition will also be open to the public to view. There are also plans to show a short documentary film of the project, through collaboration with Rochester Film Society.

This project will get young people to look at where they live in a completely different way, making them feel more in touch with their local surroundings, and realising that Rochester has so much to offer them as members of the community. It will also show others how passionate, engaged, and positive young people can be!

We would like to thank everyone for their support and their pledges, and invite everyone to the Rochester Riverside Marketing Suite on Sat 22 Jun at 2.30pm for the opening of the gallery event featuring the project photographs and film. We would like to thank Spacehive for offering us this opportunity, as well as Rochester Riverside for giving us their venue for the gallery event, and Rochester Film Society for the venue for the film of the project. VolunteerMy name is Ben Bowles, a freelance photographer from Kent. I am deeply passionate about the benefits photography can bring. The workshops will develop skills and increase the creativity of the young people taking part. Additionally, the participants will gain a greater appreciation of Rochester and what it can offer visually.
Hi, I'm Andrew Dennis, and I'm highly committed to involving young people in having a say about local issues. I want this project to show how young people, through photography, are passionate and connected with Medway as a whole, and with Rochester in particular.
