We are a purely voluntary run Rowing club for the students of Queens Park High School in Chester, providing coached rowing sessions for children aged 12-18. We currently have 73 students registered with a large waiting list for year 7 and 8 students.
The club was initially started in 1946 as part of The Chester Grammar School for boys and eventually getting its current name when the Grammar school converted to a comprehensive school in 1971.
The club is run by a very loyal group of volunteers, made up from mostly parents of current and past students and people local to the area who have rowed in their younger years whilst at the school and other rowing clubs.
Many parents choose to send their children to the school because of the rowing club, we are very lucky to be one of only four state schools in the country to have its own boathouse.
All our athletes are encouraged to compete at a regional / local level and at a national level and get to race all over the country.
We offer stability to all our children, a proportion who come from fractured homes and low income families. we feel we do a great job of being fully inclusive to all our rowers, whether they want to compete at the highest level or just want to get away from everyday stresses and go out in a boat a few times a week.
Through the sport of Rowing, we teach organisation, discipline, tenaciousness and resilience to produce happier, more responsible young people with increased confidence in their own abilities and how to deal with the world. There is a big team work ethos at the club with an emphasis on all year groups working together and helping each other.
Most of our rowers go onto achieve good academic results and continue to row when they leave us.
