More about our impact
The environment
Recent government announcements show that insulating properties has a major effect on maintaining home temperatures and reducing emissions, especially at a time when gas supplies have become expensive and possibly difficult to obtain. By covering the pool when it is not being used by swimmers, we will considerably reduce the amount of gas used, create fewer emissions and will reduce the amount of water used due to evaporation.
The local economy
To maintain fitness, our swimmers need year-round visits to the pool, so we need to offer a warm pool, especially during the winter months. Unrolling the pool-cover overnight will help maintain the temperature of the water, and encourage more swimmers to take their exercise at Chester City Baths.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Chester City Baths is run by a combination of paid and qualified staff, and by a large number of volunteers who willingly give their time and energy. The installation of the pool-cover means that the water will be warmer, thereby attracting more swimmers and more supporters as either individual swimmers, or as members of the various clubs that use the pool.
Arts, culture & heritage
This project will have a direct effect on the long-term survival of swimming, sub-aqua, triathon and water-polo at Chester City Baths by keeping this historic building available to the citizens of Chester.
Activity, health and leisure
Chester City Baths is used by schools, individuals and clubs, with teaching and training being of high priority. Many local parents learned to swim here, and now bring their children to the pool so that they can also learn the life-saving skill.
