The idea
Upcycling Workshops (Private & Funded)
Upcycling, shabby-chic, distressed, upholstery, decoupage, wallpapering, DIY, fixing, mending, crafting, metal
manipulation, welding, graffiti art, French polishing, antique restoration etc...
The Upcycle market is trending as an affordable means of crafting bespoke furniture. Sales of chalk
(furniture) paint have soared in the last 5 years with more new manufacturers entering a once monopolised
market (Annie Sloane, Frenchic, EverGreen, Rustoleum).

What we'll deliver
- Create Community Workshop Space
- Run metal manipulation Classes to the local community
- Run Upcycle Classes to Local Communities
Why it's a great idea
Empowers People
Increasing awareness of how to use tools & other electric DIY equipment so women especially can feel
confident using these in their home. Ex-offenders can also use the workshops to help integrate themselves back into society. Elderly, disabled and otherwise lonely/isolated members of the public can take part in light
arts and craft.
Increases employability
By providing the tools, materials, equipment, project deliverers and work space we are teaching vital
transferrable skills. This in turn helps to regenerate the community. Techniques such as Welding and Metal Manipulation can help people gain valuable experience if they are considering careers/studying to work on the railways and highways.
Promotes recycling
By implementing 'upcycling workshops' we will be able to widen the current criteria of the items we can accept under the free house clearance service (FHC). This means that we can also remove damaged, broken, repairable items.
• Innovative & Trending.
Steps to get it done
- Renovate space required for workshop
- Acquire materials and equipment needed to start up workshop
- Advertise and market
Being able to take pride in your home inspires and encourages people to keep their properties presentable to
a high standard. Decorating and furnishing your home mirrors self-respect and confidence. A lot of funding is directed towards housing but once tenants have been housed there is often little support for furnishing. We believe that by providing great quality affordable furniture leads to people living a better quality of life despite being limited by lack of income. By additionally supplying furniture painting workshops we can teach people new skills including the innovative art of upcycling furniture!
This project is about bringing together all backgrounds of the community through a common love of art and Interior design. It is a modern creative and trending concept which also promotes thriftiness and recycling! The opportunity for local residents to make new friends and widen their circle of contacts with the view that people benefit via communication.
