The idea
Following the destruction of the 100 yr old war memorial, we plan to rebuild it and to ensure that it is around for at least another 100 yrs. The restored memorial will include the re-engraving of the names of all the war dead, something that has been lost through wear and tear over the past 100 yrs. It will be stronger and restored to a fitting memorial of those who gave the lives during the Great War and WW2, and the historical value and record that it will again provide will be a reminder to all who see it of those who are commemorated on it. As a local landmark it is recognised and valued by the local community so it is important that it is restored to its previous stature
What we'll deliver
- A rebuilt war memorial
- A clear record of those who lost their lives in the Great War and WW2
- A restored local landmark
- A historical record reminder of two world wars
Why it's a great idea
The rebuilt war memorial will restore a fitting memorial to those who died in two world wars. It will enhance the attractive surroundings of its location within the Conservation area of Shalford village. It will provide a lasting legacy of the part the local area and local people played in the two world wars. It will provide a focal point for Remembrance Day commemorations for those who who lost their lives in the wars, and will act as a reminder of the effects of such wars on local communities
Steps to get it done
- Reaching the target to be able to start the work on resting the memorial
The original war memorial was provided by a public fundraising scheme and this will be in many ways a repeat of that to restore a much loved and appreciated local monument that is a key feature of the village of Shalford
