Project Surf Club

Project Surf Club aims to raise funds to provide a mobile community space for the participants in our Surf Therapy programme by converting our existing vehicle into a mobile community hub.

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The idea

Surf Therapy CIC uses surfing as a therapy to work with men suffering from mental ill-health and other issues. We carry out this work at the beaches around Swansea and Gower throughout the year.
'Project Surf Club' will provide an mobile 'community space' and 'club house' for the men taking part in Surf Therapy sessions in the Swansea and Gower area. It will create a safe, calm space where men can relax and discuss any issues that may have arisen during the 'surf therapy session' as well as help build the sense of belonging to a group or community and facilitate the building of friendships that many of our Surf Therapy Members do not have. The 'Project Surf Club' will have facilities to provide refreshments to the members following the surf therapy sessions.

What we'll deliver

  • Create a mobile community space that can be used by all members of the Surf Therapy programme.

Why it's a great idea

A 'community' can be described as 'a group of people sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common. The phrase ‘community space’ is open to all sorts of interpretations, probably because ‘community spaces’ are very much determined by what a community would like them to be. Surf Therapy CIC uses surfing as a therapy to work with men suffering from mental ill-health and other issues. We carry out this work at the beaches around Swansea and Gower throughout the year. The space created allows for the complete therapy circle to be closed. The act of surfing is a solo activity between man and tide, by having the safe space created by the 'surf club', it will allow the members to have the time and place to talk and discuss their experiences, devlop friendships and a greater sense of belonging to a group or community.
