The West of England is a place where people and nature can thrive side by side, through a joined-up network of natural habitats and wildlife corridors, and greener neighbourhoods - wherever we live.

Our new crowdfunding programme is an opportunity for organisations to get backing for initiatives and activities that help to restore nature in your communities.

To help projects get off the ground, the Mayor's Community Nature Fund may also pledge up to £6,000 towards selected projects, covering up to 50% of its fundraising target.

The Magic Roundabout
The Magic Roundabout joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

The Bearpit roundabout in Bristol town centre has a reputation for being a crime black spot. Our plans will see it transformed into a lively arts space - turning this no-go-area into a hive of arts and entertainment where passers by can stop and enjoy themselves. An impressive stage, together with an Eden Project-style domed canopy, will provide a platform for Bristol’s undiscovered talent to transform the Bearpit into a ‘magic roundabout’.

Bristol Harbour Lido
Bristol Harbour Lido joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

As a new type of urban environment, Bristol Harbour Lido captures the spirit of Bristol and blurs the boundaries of land and water, making it easy and possible for the people of Bristol to go for a swim in the middle of the city. Letting people physically connect with the Harbour in a new way, what could be more beautifully Bristol? We will investigate various options including naturally heating the Lido by connecting to the hot springs underneath Hotwells. We will also look at whether it will be necessary to have filtration systems, or even separate the Lido water completely from the Harbour.

Bristol Breast Care Centre Appeal
Bristol Breast Care Centre Appeal joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

One in eight women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Our aim is to build a new breast care centre that will ensure that patients from across Bristol, Gloucestershire and North Somerset continue to receive the highest levels of care with access to the first-rate facilities to match. Challenges with current provision: - patients must visit a number of different sites in Bristol in the different stages of their screening, diagnosis, treatment and after-care journey, causing a very fragmented and distressing experience - patients have identified the difficulties in receiving traumatic news, without having the appropriate spaces to think and take in their diagnosis and treatment options - patients have spoken of the difficulty of sharing outpatient facilities with patients who were visiting for screening or routine appointments. In order to provide the best possible care to women in the region, the centre will offer the following:

The Berry Maze
The Berry Maze joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

This is an unique project in the UK. Beside the obvious scope of bringing together the residents by offering a space suitable for children play, organising treasure hunts, harvest day, etc, it could potentially become a tourist attraction, helping a struggling community hit hard by the local council cuts to thrive. Already with two litter-picking events (a third one is on the way on the 11th of March), together with a handful of people, we managed to transform what used to be called "the tip" amongst the residents into a beautiful community space, where people come for a picnic rather than to dump their rubbish. This is also democracy at its best - at the last event, local residents have voted for the best way to improve the park and building a berry maze was almost unanimously chosen. Bristol Parks have agreed to the idea, so now it has come to the point where we need to gather funds for the project.

Faster broadband for Wellow
Faster broadband for Wellow joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

Currently around 90 properties in Wellow are connected to Cabinet 3 in Combe Down which is over 4km away. Due to this long distance broadband speeds for much of Wellow is less that 2Mbps at best and is subject to frequent interruption. We have received a quotation from BT for the installation of a new telephone Cabinet costing £7,578 (inc VAT) and 50% of this gap funding will be raised by the local community, 50% through a grant award from BT's Community Fibre Partnerships Grant Scheme.

Cleveland Pontoon
Cleveland Pontoon joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

Enabling river access to the Cleveland Pools will bring the site back to life and allow us to introduce it on Bath’s touristic agenda. We have so many community events, workshops, fun family activities and volunteering opportunities to offer, but without proper access from the river, which is already travelled up and down by tour boats, visitors and the local community will not be able to enjoy our summer offer. A restored pontoon will mean we can have a full season of events, increase the impact we make on Bath’s community, and prepare our wonderful lido for its 200th anniversary next year!

Save our Pre-school
Save our Pre-school joined Crowdfund West1 week ago

We have been told that we need to vacate the classrooms which we now occupy by September 2018. The preschool is thriving to the point of needing facilities to expand not close. If the pre-school close a minimum of 80 parents each year will need to find alternative child care for their children. We are able to build on land within the school and have looked a portacabin type buildings that can be build quickly and would allow us to expand.
