Preston Pride is an amazing vibrant event that has grown considerably over the last 12 years. The Pride team are a voluntary group which aims to bring together Preston's lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans (LGBTQ+) and wider communities annually to celebrate through the Preston Pride event in September. The group is managed by a small number of volunteers who run & organise the event and each year recruit additional 'Pride Maker' volunteers to support on the day and the weeks leading up to the main event .The team aim is to continue to develop and strengthen the event for the community by engaging wider and continur to work with a diverse range of people to break down barriers, reduce isolation faced by many within the LGBTQ+ community . The event aims to do this by celebrating the diversity of Preston's communities together and increase wider awareness raising of Preston's LGBTQ+ communities.
The group started in 2012 which was the year of Preston Guild, to raise the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community in Preston. It is 100% volunteer managed and led. The group also host smaller events throughout the year highlighting key dates within the LGBTQ calendar.
Since 2012 this community-based festival has taken place annually and has now become a firm favourite for the City, supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer communities, alongside our ever-increasing important allies especially young people who attend in huge numbers each year.
When it began the event attracted around 200 people, data supplied at the time by Lancashire Police however in 2024 this figure has risen to over 3,000 people and continues to grow which the event infrastucture must expand and now grow too!
