More about our impact
The environment
We planted up one of the raised beds with herbs so they could survive the winter. We explained and demonstrated Hugelkultur to the children so they know how to plant up the remaining raised beds in a no-dig, no water method. The beds will attract butterflies and other wildlife in the Spring of 2022. The children now have somewhere to learn how to grow plants, flowers, vegetables and salad crops
The local economy
The project gave work to 3 freelance visual artists and a Project Manager for 12 sessions. This was most welcome after Covid hit the arts world particularly badly.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The project created 3 volunteer posts, each given the opportunity to attend 12 sessions. We were able to educate the children from 2 classes at The Nabb Primary School in Holmfirth on how to plant up raised beds.
Arts, culture & heritage
Unfortunately we were unable to work with The Bridgewood Trust and Enfield Down due to Covid, but we did manage to work with the school, as we could get together outside where risk of infection was minimal. Our members all learnt how to create mosaics to cover pots, they sketched and painted the flowers and plants that they grew, and they made hand scrubs and herbal teas from plants, keeping our natural heritage alive.
Activity, health and leisure
The project promoted physical activity and leisure activity in terms of gardening, drawing painting, and mosaicing. Traditional healthy ways of using plants was promoted in making hand sugar scrubs and herbal tisanes.
