The idea
Shock Alert: 1,243 Youth Clubs Vanished Since 2010!
Together, we can fight back by launching free Junior (8-12) and Senior (12-17) Youth Clubs in Trees Estate, Golcar, Huddersfield. Parkwood Community Project, a new CIO, is stepping up with free sessions at our Drop By Centre. In England’s 4.2% most deprived areas—like ours—youth services are crumbling.
Your donation to our £13,669 appeal funds 39 weeks of life-changing sessions for up to 20 kids per club, led by two trained staff, including a qualified Youth and Community Worker (PGCE). Partnering with Youth Matters, we’ll deliver baking, crafts, and mentorship to tackle isolation, lift mental health, and grow skills.
Our Community Café proves it works and has transformed lives:
· like a teen gaining confidence volunteering
· a walking group
· seated exercises
· funding a Young Leaders Network Course to develop key skills for life
· or a young man easing housing anxiety through chats
· reducing crime with the police and adult abuse
What we'll deliver
- A 39-week programme of Junior and Senior Youth Clubs at our Drop By Centre, Trees Estate, Golcar.
- Weekly Tuesday sessions during term time:
- Junior Youth Club (8-12 years, 5pm-6.45pm) and Senior Youth Club (12-17 years, 7pm-9pm),
- Each session for up to 20 participants with baking, crafts, and mentorship, led by two trained staff.
- Staff includes a a qualified Youth and Community Worker with a PGCE who successfully runs youth clubs across Kirklees.
- We’ll provide resources (ingredients, art supplies) to create safe, engaging spaces that build confidence and skills.
Why it's a great idea
· Reducing Isolation: Safe spaces for up to 20 young people to build friendships, vital in an area with few youth services. Like the person who walked into our Community Café because the door was open and kept returning for connection.
· Boosting Mental Health: Mentorship and activities build resilience, like with a teen volunteer who regained confidence at our Café, or a mother who found relief sharing struggles over tea with a volunteer.
· Developing Skills: Baking and crafts teach practical skills for jobs and life.
· Reducing Anti-Social Behaviour: Engaging youth in positive activities to foster responsibility and community pride
· Reducing crime. Our project, together with the support of the police, has successfully intervened in a case of adult abuse.
· Strengthening Community: A hub fostering 800+ sessions annually, empowering vulnerable young people, including home-educated ones. Partnering with Youth Matters, we’ll create a resilient Trees Estate where everyone feels valued.
