Ormskirk Heritage Hub Community Interest Company is here to explore, record and celebrate the history and heritage of our town and surrounding districts.
Our aim is to bring history to life and engage local people and visitors by presenting our town's story using artefacts and documents from existing collections in a dynamic and interesting way. This will allow material to be seen and understood by a much wider audience than would otherwise be possible.
We already have good working relationships with local heritage groups and interested individuals. The pop-up museum project will allow us to build on this by providing an opportunity for historic material to be brought out of storage and ensure it is displayed in an an attractive, approriate and secure environment.
The Ormskirk Heritage Hub team have extensive experience of working within the local community to present heritage through involvement in publicly accessible exhibitions, community events, talks, heritage walks and bespoke events at care homes, sheltered housing, schools and youth groups such as Scout and Guides. We have received much community support and a growing audience through our Facebook page, website and newspaper articles.
We have received support from West Lancashire Borough Council through the development of an "Ormskirk Micro Museum" in a council owned former telephone box in the town centre. Two local councillors have recently backed our project with funding contributions.
This project seeks to build on this work and networks to create a flexible, portable collection of thematic displays, artefacts and costumes which can be used to not only deliver the project but would also form a significant contribution to future projects. We see this pilot as an essential stepping stone towards a bigger initiative.
