Available free of charge in a publicly accessible space for a limited period, the Ormskirk Heritage Pop-Up Museum will be curated to catch the attention of both local residents & tourists exploring the town. The visitor experience will seek to engage younger people, who are familiar with the pop-up concept, as well as the wider community. It will provide social media friendly opportunities alongside detailed interpretations of key aspects of Ormskirk's rich history and will focus on carefully curated and presented artefacts, documents and research sourced through collaborations with local heritage groups. With a focus on inclusivity the Museum will provide opportunities for liaison with schools, youth groups, local higher education establishments, community groups and volunteers. It will bring the local community together to celebrate Ormskirk's unique past and provide an essential stepping stone towards a larger heritage offer for the town by demonstrating support for the project.

What we'll deliver:

  • A Pop-Up Museum in a publicly accessible Ormskirk venue.
  • A launch event to include talks and demonstrations of artefacts

Why it's a great idea:

-Creating a pilot, time limited, manageable project to gain experience and help develop a model for a larger museum offer in the future. - Encouraging intergenerational learning by creating opportunities for families to bond over shared stories and heritage. - Strengthening ties between local heritage groups, schools and organisations, fostering long-term collaborations. - Boosting interest in Ormskirk's history, potentially leading to an increased feeling of identity and place within the local community. -Providing volunteer opportunities for those interested in presenting activities, museum curation, researching local history and promoting the project. -Enhancing the Ormskirk visitor experience by providing a focus for interpretation of the town's history. -Signposting and highlighting sites of historical interest in the town and local area which will increase footfall. -Providing content on which to build a strong social media presence. -Encouraging research and publication.

Steps to get it done:

  • Carry out research and scope for thematic displays
  • Purchase equipment, artefacts and commission art work for thematic displays
  • Deliver a launch event in a community venue including display and talk
  • Deliver the pop-up museum in a community space
  • Recruit volunteers
