More about our impact
The environment
While Olympia Boxing Tonbridge primarily focused on improving physical and mental wellbeing, it also had positive knock on effects for the local environment: Encouraged active travel: Many participants chose to walk to sessions or use public transport rather than drive particularly older adults and young women reducing local car journeys and emissions. Promoted use of local green spaces: Our coaches regularly encouraged participants to stay active in their local environment, including walking in local parks or using gardens and communal areas for light exercise, helping to foster a deeper connection with the outdoors. Kept it local and low impact: By delivering sessions in local community venues close to where people live, we cut the need for long-distance travel, supported neighbourhood infrastructure, and promoted sustainable use of local assets. Minimal waste ethos: We maintained a low environmental footprint by using reusable equipment, avoiding single use materials, and promoting reusable water bottles among participants. While the programme was rooted in sport and social connection, these small choices and community habits play a part in supporting a healthier environment alongside a healthier population.
The local economy
Olympia Boxing Tonbridge provided more than just health and wellbeing benefits. It also contributed positively to the local economy: Employment opportunities: We provided paid work for qualified local coaches and instructors, investing directly into the local workforce and supporting careers in sport, fitness, and community health. Venue hire and local spend: By hiring community-based venues, we reinvested funds into local facilities, helping sustain vital spaces that host a range of activities for residents. Participant spending: Sessions encouraged participants to get out of the house, leading to incidental local spending such as popping into cafés or shops nearby before or after sessions, particularly among older adults and parent groups. Skills development: By creating a structured, consistent programme, we laid the groundwork for future volunteer pathways and leadership roles empowering local residents with transferable skills and boosting employability in the longer term. Signposting to local services: Through our social element and partnerships, we helped connect people to other local businesses, wellbeing providers, and leisure activities, strengthening community ties and promoting a local-first approach to health and lifestyle. This project didn’t just bring people together through boxing, it helped activate local spaces, support local professionals, and energise the community economy from the ground up.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We created new opportunities for personal development, local employment, and future pathways for participants and community members: Created paid roles for local coaches: The programme directly funded session delivery roles, supporting experienced instructors while also providing valuable hands on work for newer coaches looking to build their experience in community settings. Introduced future volunteering pathways: Several participants particularly older residents and young women have expressed interest in helping at future sessions, acting as peer supporters or session ambassadors. We’re now exploring how to involve them as volunteers to assist with setup, social time and participant welcome. Promoted skills development and confidence: For some attendees, the programme marked a first step back into structured group activity. It increased their confidence, leadership, and social interaction skills key building blocks for future education or employment engagement. Signposted participants to training opportunities: Our team shared information on local courses in health, fitness, and wellbeing, including how to get involved with Olympia Boxing's own coach development pathways such as activator workshops and community coaching opportunities. Building a long-term legacy: By embedding positive role models and offering consistent contact with qualified coaches, we’ve helped shape aspirations, particularly among younger participants who are now exploring future roles in sport, fitness, and youth work. In short, Olympia Boxing didn’t just deliver sessions, it sparked momentum for volunteering, employment, and lifelong learning within the local community.
Activity, health and leisure
Olympia Boxing Tonbridge was designed to break down barriers to physical and social activity and that’s exactly what it achieved. We delivered weekly boxing based sessions that were inclusive, low pressure, and welcoming to women, girls, and older adults. Many of whom were previously inactive, socially isolated, or disengaged from community life. Here’s how we promoted activity, health, and leisure: Physical activity: Every session included structured, engaging boxing fitness from pad work and circuits to low impact movement and coordination drills. Sessions were adaptable to all levels, allowing participants to build fitness at their own pace. Mental wellbeing: By creating a safe and supportive space, we promoted the mental health benefits of routine, physical movement, and social interaction. Participants regularly reported improved mood, reduced stress, and increased confidence. Social leisure time: Each session included dedicated time for conversation and connection. Whether it was a pre session chat or a relaxed debrief after, we gave people a reason to look forward to each week not just for the activity, but for the company. Ongoing healthy lifestyle promotion: Our coaches encouraged participants to stay active beyond the sessions sharing tips on using local green spaces, walking groups, and at home routines, as well as guidance on healthy habits around sleep and nutrition. Pathways into more leisure opportunities: We also connected participants with other local activities and services, giving them the confidence and knowledge to explore more of what their community has to offer. In short, Olympia Boxing Tonbridge didn’t just get people moving, it reintroduced them to the idea that being active, social and healthy can be enjoyable, accessible, and sustainable.
