The environment
By continueing to play sports at New Longton, it helps to sustain the environment by protecting open space & natural areas around the playing field. During the refurbishment, attention was given to energy efficient. We installed LED lighting with passive infrared switches, The windows and doorswere replaced with moderern PVC double glazed units. Bib taps were fitted to sinks to restrict waste.
Volunteering, jobs & education
New Longton Sports and Social Club is managed by a volunteer committee, the junior and senior teams are run be volunteers. Members are proud to be part of the New Longton community and involved in the success of New Longton Sports and Social Club.
Arts, culture & heritage
New Longton Sports and Social Club now have changing facilities that are more female and child friendly, They allow NLSSC to fulfill its stated aim to increase sporting participation by women & girls The facilities are suitable for use by people with physical disabilities, health conditions or impairment. The project has help deliver our inclusivity aims, to offer the playing of sport to all.
Activity, health and leisure
The benefits of playing sport are: - Brings people together, providing opportunities for social interaction. - Empowers, inspires and motivates people - Keeps children away from the TV or computer screen! - Children who participate learn better and are more likely to enjoy school - Improves mental health - Eases pressure on the health system - Healthy workers are more productive and take fewer sick days - Creates positive alternatives to youth offending, antisocial behaviour and crime - Reduces pollution – promotes other modes of transport like walking and cycling. - Provides a vehicle for inclusion of people of different races, religions and cultures. - Creates opportunities for, and promotes, volunteering - Contributes to higher levels of self-esteem and self-worth. - Helps to sustain the environment by protecting open space & natural areas - Provides work/life balance - Shared experiences binds families and communities - Promotes a healthy, active lifestyle - Reduces obesity
