New Longton Sports & Social Club is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club. Where Cricket, Football, Ladies Softball Cricket and All stars cricket (under 8 year olds) is played. The changing rooms are over 40 years old and in dire need of refurbishment and modernisation. The Crowd funding will be used towards the cost of refurbishing and upgrading the changing facilities to make them more female and child friendly, and to allow NLSSC to fulfill its stated aim to increase sporting participation by women & girls The work will include the provision of facilities for those with physical disabilities, health conditions or impairment. This work is conducive with our inclusivity aims, to offer the playing of sport to all.

What we'll deliver:

  • Modern changing room facilties fit for the 21st century
  • Inclusive participation in sport for adults and children
  • Improvements in the mental and physical wellbeing of the community

Why it's a great idea:

The benefits of playing sport are: - Brings people together, providing opportunities for social interaction. - Empowers, inspires and motivates people - Keeps children away from the TV or computer screen! - Children who participate learn better and are more likely to enjoy school - Improves mental health - Eases pressure on the health system - Healthy workers are more productive and take fewer sick days - Creates positive alternatives to youth offending, antisocial behaviour and crime - Reduces pollution – promotes other modes of transport like walking and cycling. - Provides a vehicle for inclusion of people of different races, religions and cultures. - Creates opportunities for, and promotes, volunteering - Contributes to higher levels of self-esteem and self-worth. - Helps to sustain the environment by protecting open space & natural areas - Provides work/life balance - Shared experiences binds families and communities - Promotes a healthy, active lifestyle - Reduces obesity

Steps to get it done:

  • Completion of the entire project by the end of the year, but earlier if possible

New Longton Sports and Social Club is not-for-profit organisation, it is managed by a committee of volunteers who freely give their time for the benefit of the community. We fund our operation from bar and membership revenues, any surpluses are reinvested to the benefit of the membership. The funding of the refurbishment and upgrade of the changing rooms will provide a welcoming, inclusive, safe & hygienic environment for sport participants. The work will guarantee the continued playing of sport in the community with enhanced changing facilities providing an opportunity to attract new junior, women, girls and disabled members.
