The idea
Mural Land is a public art project.
We have not yet secured specific sites for the murals as our approach asks the public to vote on the design for an upcoming wall, which helps draws people in to suggest or donate more spaces to become involved in the project. In the unlikely event we are not able to secure permissions to install the murals, no money will be taken from backers.
The public will be able to vote on proposed walls, designs from artists and also suggest walls both via online and by paper forms by dropping in to their local libraries.
What we'll deliver
- Create a focal point for artists
- Ensure the public gets an opportunity to vote on the designs provided by the artists
- Erect murals in as many different areas in Newham as possible.
Why it's a great idea
Street art and public art is a huge facilitator to increase civic pride in the area and uplift the local streetscape.
Steps to get it done
- Deliver 2 engagement events to promote the Mural Land project and seek out new volunteers and wall doners
- Deliver 5 pieces of public art in different areas in Newham, excluding Maryland, Manor Park and Forest Gate
- Deliver one art exhibition displaying the artwork of the projecy
Creating a focal point for the community to engage in arts and culture, while supporting local artists and attracting globally recognised artists, putting Newham on the map as a cultural destination.
