This new crowdfunding programme from Stroud District Council and Spacehive is an opportunity for you to bring to life initiatives and activities which are close to your community’s heart.
Stroud District Council has distributed grants either directly or indirectly through other organisations or government initiatives, over many years. Crowdfunding is different as it gives the creativity and decision making back to the people, encouraging a social movement of change and prosperity within the district.
As part of this programme there are two funding rounds a year, in the Spring and in the Autumn.
The Spring 2025 funding window is now open. Groups have until the deadline of the 7th May 2025 to get their projects ready (i.e., ensure costs and permissions in place) before they start crowdfunding in mid May.
See the steps below on how to get involved.
For groups who are not ready to start their crowdfunding campaign now, we will be launching the next round in late June 2025. Workshops will be planned for mid-July with a deadline to have your project ready by the end of September.

"Let the River Roar! Treasure the Severn Bore" is a heartfelt initiative to protect the iconic Severn Bore, this unique tidal phenomenon is a vital ecological and cultural jewel of the Severn Vale. This living landmark faces increasing threats from development, pollution and climate change, yet lacks formal recognition. The project seeks to champion its preservation through eco-focused legal advocacy, led by Earth Law expert Monica Feria-Tinta, and by hosting inclusive community events that celebrate the river's legacy and reconnect people with its majestic flow. “At its heart is a single, transformative idea: that rivers are not mere matter for human use, but living beings—who should be recognised as such in both imagination and law". Robert Macfarlane - Author "As a naturalist and conservationist, the importance of the Severn catchment area is indisputable". Ian Redmond OBE - Supporter ‘I am the river; the river is me.’ - Māori proverb
Emergence Re-Stock is a six-month pilot circular-fashion platform that partners with local brands, community groups, and recycling centres in the Stroud district to collect, grade, upcycle, and consign dead-stock clothing. It aims to divert 50 tonnes of textiles from landfills and engage 150 community members through maker days and workshops. It combines a zero-cost consignment model for brands, professional grading and “digital passports” for transparency, and end-of-life routing to accredited recyclers, all supported by a CIC governance structure and targeted marketing to secure matched crowdfunding pledges.
Leonard Stanley Village Hall is an historic local building and essential rural community hub which has a history going back to 1850. With the closure in 2022 of the last remaining local pub, the village hall is now the only venue in the village (except for the local school hall and a small scout hut) that can accommodate local community activities such as keep fit classes, social events, parties, clubs, playgroups, parish council mtgs, coffee mornings, etc., for local residents. However, the building is very old, so it isn't energy efficient or even secure against the elements (the roof leaks regularly). We therefore urgently need to get a new roof, including new insulation, guttering and repointing, for the village hall and the social club that shares the building.
This is important as a playpark can provide a variety of learning opportunities. Outdoor play involves; physical exercise, social behaviour, imaginative play and cognitive development with gross motor skills. Exercise improves health and well-being while the safe environment encourages independence. The need for this project is a safe, inclusive, accessible and exciting environment for the young of the community to play and engage with their peers, it is also a good place for families and friends to gather as part of a community and younger members get fresh air and exercise. The current park is 15+ years old and in great need of refurbishment. It is a well used park, before after school times and during the weekends is always full of children, to have the equipment taken away or park closing would be detrimental to all.
We’ve just opened Redz! — a vibrant new youth-led space in Stroud — to give local young people a home to connect, create, and grow. With The RYSE, the Youth Assembly and other inspiring groups already making Redz their home , it's a Youth for Youth hub with huge potential. But to thrive, they need your help! We're raising Pay It Forward funding so youth can host free sessions for their peers, plus seed funding to launch 10 new youth-led groups and support for them to connect with young changemakers across the UK. This is about building a self-organised, inclusive space where young people lead the way — with Stroud Community Space simply supporting in the background. Your support will help make Redz a sustainable, welcoming, and truly youth-powered home for creativity, connection and community. Let’s build it — together.
