Penguin Acting & Theatre Productions is a Community Interest Company (C.I.C) set up for the benefit of Kirklees. I'm Lou as the company name suggests, yes I am obsessed with penguins!
I founded the company in 2018 in response to the removal of drama from the school curriculum. I was passionate about ensuring that the arts continue to play an active part in communities.
The community stage will give artists and small businesses opportunities to perform for live audiences that wouldn't have otherwise been possible. As a company we are regulary frustrated by high venue costs that mean we can't put our work on in theatres without risking a huge financial loss or offsetting the cost onto our audiences. This must sound familiar to many.
We offer affordable drama classes and productions. We use local actors and community members in all our shows.
The company produces preventative, topical based Theatre in Education work to empower children and young people to tackle important issues and explore their perceptions of the world around them. We also provide complimentary workshops in order to examine the themes presented in more depth with opportunities to question the characters directly.
As a not for profit entity any monies go back into local productions like our free Drive-In Pantomine in 2020 called A Crazy Covid Christmas which was also live streamed to people in the comfort of their homes.
We didn't let Covid beat us as we a super resilent and always up for a challenge!
