Mirfield Community Stage

Penguin Acting & Theatre Productions C.I.C. By Penguin Acting & Theatre Productions C.I.C.

Making the arts, especially theatre productions accessible and affordable to local communities through creating a portable stage for use indoors and out.

Mirfield Delivery stage

pledged of £3,302

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

As an established theatre company we want to bring more community shows to Mirfield for the local people of Kirklees. These won't just be theatre, we want to offer comedy, live music and storytelling for the whole family. We will purchase portable equipment including a stage, lighting and backdrop curtains to ensure we are providing a quality experience. We already have a couple of marquees, sound equipment and bags of event experience to contribute. This is a long term investment that will keep on giving.

What we'll deliver:

  • The mobile stage will host regular, affordable community shows for all

Why it's a great idea:

I have always found local theatres very expensive for tickets but also totally inaccessible to small companies like ours who want to put on a production without charging audiences the earth. Our benefits include: Ticket prices capped at £5 per person A set figure of complimentary tickets will be available for charities, social care etc to ensure accessibility for all We will reduce isolation by taking the art to those who can't get to us i.e. the elderly Based in Mirfield we are in a central location within Kirklees, improving the economy Opportunities for local people to perform and showcase their skills Ability to produce new innovative productions and work with new artists to help them break into the industry Enhance the culture of the younger generation who may not have experienced theatre before The arts are known to improve mental health and bring people together from all generations The productions will increase volunteering opportunities and potentially create jobs

Steps to get it done:

  • Ensure we create at least one community theatre production in 2021
