The Box Youth & Community Project was set up in 2002 to provide much needed community services for local residents. The organisation is managed by a local Management Committee and services/activities/opportunities continue to be developed in response to locally identified need. We currently work with 220+ children and young people over six evenings each week, and during all school holiday periods. During the day, approximately 230 residents access services/support that we provide. Our current work programmes include:
-Afterschool/junior youth clubs (5 evenings)
-Senior youth club sessions (2 evenings)
-Friends Together Group (2 evenings) -young adults with learning disabilities
-Stepping out Group - weekly out of centre session for adults with learning disabilities
-Good Vibes Project providing 1-1 mental health support for young people
-Young Volunteers Project - supporting 18 young people to gain experience and give something back to their community
- Go Online Project -providing access to wifi and supporting local residents to develop skills to get them online.
- East Rangers Project - involving adult volunteers and local residents in activities to keep our local community clean and tidy.
-Lend a Hand Project - providing practical support around the home and garden for elderly/vulnerable residents
-Dinner 2 Door Service - providing elderly/vulnerable residents with a hot home cooked meal that is delivered to their door 3 days/week.
-Weekly Community Lunch (average 35 residents/wk)
-Weekly Community Pantry (average 12 families/wk)
-Weekly Mens Group
- Weekly Cultural activities i.e. ukulele group, preschool singing, art group
-Weekly walking group - encouraging over 50's to keep active
TBYCP is also a community hub where residents can drop in for information/support on a range of different issues. We signpost residents to Council Services & Support and support provided by our voluntary sector partners. We have supported low income families via the Household Support Grant. We also provide support to smaller community groups within the locality - free use of our building and resources, support with funding applications, support in dealing with administrative or operational issues.
