The idea
A new minibus will enable TBYCP to continue delivering much needed services to residents of all ages across the area. Our current minibus has served us well over the last 18 years but constant repair bills and unreliability means we must act now to replace it so there is no disruption to the services we provide . Our minibus will be used to:
- support the delivery of our school holiday activity programmes, keeping children and young people active.
- transport teams of volunteers on community task days
- support our independent living sessions for adults with learning disabilities
- transport elderly/disabled residents to/from centre based activities, reducing social isolation.
Our new minibus will be more cost efficient to run which will enable us to expand current programmes of work to provide new opportunities/activities/experiences for more groups within our community.
What we'll deliver
- Children and young people enjoying themselves at local visitor attractions i.e. beach, parks
- More elderly/vulnerable residents engaging in activities within their community
- Adults with learning disabilities taking part in community task days
- Exciting range of available to children, young people and families during school holiday periods
Why it's a great idea
-New experiences to children and young people aged 5-19 every school holiday period. We have 200+ children that access our activities each week.
-Reduce social isolation and improve mental wellbeing amongst elderly and vulnerable residents by providing transport to/from centre based activities.
-Provide enriching out of centre activities every week for adults with learning disabilities.
Steps to get it done
- Purchasing a new secondhand minibus that meets the organisations needs
- Contacting local organisations to let them know we have a new vehicle and that they can use it
A newer minibus will help to reduce carbon emissions
We will increase our pool of volunteer drivers - more volunteers are likely to come forward to drive a newer vehicle. If we are providing transport for elderly and disabled residents, it is likely we will increase participant numbers which in turn increase the number of volunteering opportunities we are able to offer. A new mini bus with additional facilities such as disabled access will offer easier transitions for members with limited mobility.
