More about our impact
The environment
We turned some disused scrub land into a fully functioning community asset
The local economy
The community garden has increased footfall and business in the cafe in the community centre which will allow us to extend the hours of the cafe creating extra employment in the area and providing a service in an area with no other cafes.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We are starting in our gardening journey and will have lots of learning in the coming year. We have involved lots of community in getting ready for opening in May but really the hard work and exciting times are ahead of us. We are engaging with our different community groups to see how they want to use the facilities and this work will start in earnest from September. Gardening club and our gardening What's App group are reaching out to eachother and sharing knowledge daily on such important questions as "Is that a weed?" and "Is that a tree we've planted in the wrong location" . It's great to see the more experienced gardens helping those with less experience in an organic and supportive way.
Arts, culture & heritage
We've had a creative crowd helping us with our planting. We've got a wonderful spidersweb of garden string supporting our runner beans!
Activity, health and leisure
Our gardeners are getting fit. Our gardeners are benefitting from the physical and mental well being that is a known benefit of gardening. We are getting people together, stimulating learning and sharing. Our groups are in their infancy but the outlook is really positive
