The Friends of Merrilocks Park (FMP) began in 2019, following a meeting with Councillor Diane Roscoe, who advised that establishing a 'Friends' group would mean Green Sefton could support us in our efforts to restore the Park; without whose help the group could not have continued! We are a small number of local residents, but with big aspirations to restore Merrilocks Park to its former glory. This includes restoring the Railings that had fallen into disrepair over the years and had to be removed by Sefton Council. The FMP aim to make the Park a beautiful green space once more for everyone to enjoy - this was certainly true during the Covid crisis, with many people choosing to meet up at the Park for a sandwich lunch with friends safely outdoors. Gardening sessions are held each Saturday from 2 pm to 3 pm and Park users are invited to join the FMP to help maintain the Park and plan future social events. A local school together with the FMP grow food in the Community Planter, available to Park users, who can make a donation if wished in the Donation Column towards the upkeep of the Park. The 'HELP REPLACE MERRILOCKS PARK RAILINGS' Appeal was launched with a Jubilee Concert in June, 2022 followed by a Carol Concert in December, 2022, with outstanding success. Together with generous individual donations, funding has been raised for the first section of railings in front of the Serpentine Road North border. A successful SpaceHive campaign would mean that the second and third sections could also be installed in front of the Merrilocks Road border and the Top end of the Park, marking the final phase of the RESTORATION of MERRILOCKS PARK! A wonderful achievement! to be celebrated by the whole community!
